Nicholas Epley

John Templeton Keller Professor of Behavioral Science
The University of Chicago Booth School of Business

Professor Epley has been a member of the Chicago Booth faculty since 2005. He conducts research in the areas of experimental study of social cognition; perspective taking; and intuitive human judgment. Most of his research investigates people's abilities to read others' minds, from knowing how one is being judged by others to predicting others' attitudes, beliefs, and underlying motivations, and the implications of systematic mistakes in mind reading for everyday social interactions. After receiving his Ph.D. in Psychology from Cornell University he served as an Assistant Professor in the Psychology Department at Harvard. He now teaches MBA courses in Management and Behavioral Science at Chicago Booth.

His research has appeared in more than two dozen journals, including the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Psychological Science, and the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology. His research also has been featured by the Wall Street Journal, CNN, Wired, and National Public Radio, among many others, and has been funded by the National Science Foundation.

Programs taught by this professor include:
